Postnatal Weight Loss Program

Many new mothers are keen to lose the extra weight they gained during their pregnancies. However, immediately after the birth is not an ideal time to start trying to lose weight. Your body needs to recover from the birth and needs optimal nutrition when establishing breastfeeding. Speeding up the natural loss of weight after the birth can cause your body to produce ketones, a chemical that in high levels can be unhealthy for your baby.

At Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond we offer a program focusing on healthy eating, gentle exercise and ongoing support from an experience midwife with a special interest in nutrition and exercise.  The program is tailor-made for each individual woman and is safe while breastfeeding.

The first step of the program is a detailed health appraisal. The health appraisal looks at your overall health history, nutrition, weight, blood pressure, lifestyle and level of exercise. Information is provided on how you can improve your health and wellbeing. The focus of the appraisal is on wellness.

The information gathered during your health appraisal not only leads the way to healthy weight loss, the information is analysed to determine if you are at risk for the development of certain health problems. If your profile identifies you as being “at risk”, you will be provided with information and opportunities to participate on improving your health. All information provided is confidential.

The health appraisal is free and there is no obligation to purchase further services or products. Ideally the health appraisal is conducted face to face. If this is not possible - a modified health appraisal can be conducted online and/or via telephone.
