home> birth stories> breech birth stories> a story about congenital hip dysplasia
My baby daughter Jessica was born 7 months ago and we just found out that she has 'Congenital Hip Dysplasia'. The specialist said that all breech babies should be x-rayed for it, especially girls.
When we asked the doctor who preformed the caesarean section why it wasn't done, he said that "it's not hospital policy". So now little Jessica needs an operation and will be in a half body plaster for 12 months. All this could of been avoided if there was more information on Congenital Hip Dysplasia or if it was recommended at birth for all breech babies.
When I searched the web for breech babies, nothing was said about this condition. If only there was something, it could have been dealt with early and she wouldn't have to have the cast. It took me an hour to find it on the net and it wasn't under 'congenital hip dysplasia.
How do you say sorry to a 7 month old baby. Words can't express my sorrow as she is just starting to crawl and now she will be immobile for 12 months. I just want to flood the internet with this information so no one else's baby has to go through this
Regards Graham (Jessica's dad)
