Breastfeeding Rates in Australia
The Australian National Breastfeeding Strategy 2010-2015 looks at the breastfeeding rates in Australia with the aim to; raise breastfeeding rates, increase breastfeeding knowledge and raise the length of time babies are breastfed for.
The data shows that by six months of age, only 14% of babies in Australia are exclusively breastfed. This is despite this being the WHO (World Health Organisation) recommendation. This figure lags behind other OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) countries.
What do you feel needs to change to raise these statistics and benefit babies and toddlers throughout Australia?
