Gentle Discipline - the letter of a teenage son
We have been talking a lot about what gentle discipline means on the forum recently. What do you feel gentle discipline means and how does it work in practice?
Today I came across this letter on the Little Hearts Gentle Parenting website from a teenage son to his mum about the way he was disciplined as a child. The way we discipline, and parent, our children now will stay with them as they grow up.
It reminded me of this quote by Dr Sears:
'Discipline is more about building the right relationship with your child than using the right techniques. You want to put into place a guidance system that keeps the child in check at age four and keeps his behavior on track at age forty, and you want this system to be integrated into the child's whole personality, a part of him or her.'
