    Question Fundal push

I heard about "fundal push". I am just curious why they were doing it? Is it safe? Will it cause injury or trauma to both the mother and baby?

Dear Nadinne - the word 'Fundal' refers to the top of the uterus. Pushing on the top of the uterus isn't commended during labour or while giving birth - it could cause trauma to both the mother and baby. Sometimes a midwife may massage the top of the uterus after birth if the women is experiencing too much bleeding.
