How did you feel when you found out you were pregnant with twins?
Many of us who do not have twins may dream about the excitement of being told you are pregnant with twins. However, being told you are pregnant with more than one baby can come as a big shock and can certainly take some time to adapt to. If you are a mum of multiples then we would love to hear how you felt when you were first told you were carrying twins.
It is normal to feel some or all of the following emotions:
- joy, delight and excitement
- fear of how you will cope with two babies, worry about money and practical things you will need for the babies
- a numbness; you may feel unable to process the information and even feel guilty that you are not feeling overjoyed
- happiness that your family is coming about quicker than you had planned
- surprised and nervous
You are likely to have a lot of questions about matters such as; pregnancy with twins, twin birth and looking after newborn twins.
It is important to keep talking to those around you and ask for more help if you are finding your emotions difficult to process. Organisations such as the Australian Multiple Birth Association provide excellent support and resources. Most parents-to-be also find it helpful to get in touch with parents of multiples in their area; there's no support quite like someone who has been there before.
Congratulations to all our forum members who are carrying twins or triplets. We are also here for you and ready to support you on the Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond forum.
