I have read a lot of articles regarding the safety issues in having seafood when pregnant. Is it safe to have seafood when pregnant?

Pregnant women should avoid eating raw shellfish (such as oysters, prawns, crabs and clams) because they could have bacteria present which could cause food poisoning. You can eat cooked shellfish in pregnancy because this kills any bacteria and viruses.
In terms of fish, pregnant women (and women trying for a baby) should avoid: shark, swordfish and marlin. They contain high levels of mercury which could be harmful to the baby's development. You should also only eat two portions of tuna a week; again because of the mercury levels.
You should eat two portions of oily fish (such as salmon, mackerel, trout, sardines) a week in pregnancy but no more than this.
