    Question Return of Menstrual Cramps

I used to have menstrual cramps before I got pregnant and was gone after giving birth. Now, after 2 years I felt it coming back. Is it normal for menstrual cramps to return after a long time?

    Dear milkandboo,

I would like to ask you a couple more questions to help me to answer this fully. Have you been breastfeeding and, if so, how long for? The reason I ask this is because breastfeeding can change your monthly cycle. Many breastfeeding women find that their periods are lighter and menstrual cramps are reduced during this time. When they stop breastfeeding the menstrual cramps may become back to their pre-birth level.

Have there been any other changes in your monthly cycle?

    Warm wishes,
    LJ

    Hi LJ,

Yes, I breastfed but for about 2 1/2 months only after giving birth since I have to go back to work. So, maybe this explains why my menstrual cramps are now back, I just had a little time breastfeeding.

As for my monthly cycle, it came regularly after 4 months of giving birth up to now.

    Thanks for the information.

    Regards!

    Dear milkandboo,

    You are very welcome.

If you have any ongoing concerns about your menstrual cycle then do see your doctor.

    Warm wishes,
    LJ
