    Thinking about starting a family

My husband and I are wanting to start a family at age 37. I recently had a physical and I am in good health but wondering if at this age it would safe for me and the baby?

    Dear Tina,

Welcome to the Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond forum - it's great to have you join us here.

From age 35 years onward, a woman's fertility levels start to significantly decrease. So the main issue to consider is that it would be good to start trying to conceive sooner rather than later. The reason for this is that both the quality and the quantity of a woman's eggs decrease with age. The fact that the quality of the eggs decreases with age does mean that certain syndromes as well as the chance of having a miscarriage are greater. However, the majority of women aged 37-38 would have a healthy pregnancy.

Have you started any preconception care yet? This would be advisable.

    Wishing you all the best.

    Warm wishes,
