Will breastfeeding help mum lose weight?

Breastfeeding is frequently touted as a weight loss aide, but countless mums say it just didnít happen that way for them. Are the weight loss benefits of breastfeeding a myth?

    Hi,

No it's not a myth - many breastfeeding mums lose weight quicker than formula feeding mums. Of course, this doesn't apply to everyone and it also depends on how mum's lifestyle changes (which it certainly will!) once baby arrives. A healthy, balanced diet with daily exercise is still important though can be difficult at first so be gentle with yourself for the first two months postpartum. You are more likely to lose weight through breastfeeding if you breastfeed on demand and you do not introduce any formula (formula also takes away some of the immunological properties of the breastmilk).

    Warm wishes,
    LJ
