    post partum depression

How would you know if you're having a post partum depression?
    Signs and symptoms?

    Hi jacelene,

Thank you for posting this important question.

Unfortunately postnatal depression (also known as postpartum depression) affects around 1 in 5 of new mums. Signs that you have postnatal depression include:

    - a low mood that you are unable to break out of
    - low energy
    - trouble sleeping
    - not wanting to eat
    - feeling desperate
    - feeling sad for long periods of time

It's really important to seek help and support if you recognise any of these symptoms in yourself? You can talk to a health visitor or doctor. There is nothing to be ashamed of - it is not your fault but you will need extra support to help you.

Is this something you think you may be experiencing yourself?

    Warm wishes,
    LJ

I thought postpartum depression was not a real thing until I experienced it myself. I was crying almost every night when I am alone with my baby, since my husband works at night that time. I was very frustrated when I can't breastfeed my baby. I felt ugly and fat.

I was lucky to have a very understanding husband, my resident psychiatrist. He helped me go through that stage and bring back my confidence.
