Why telling your birth story is important
Have you shared your birth story/stories with your family, friends, other new parents or here on the Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond forum? If you would like to share your story here; we would love to read it.
Women have been telling their birth stories for centuries. Telling our stories, woman to woman, normalises birth. It gives other women the message that they too can give birth in the way that they wish.
The study Making Meaning: Women's Birth Narratives describes sharing birth stories as:
'the opportunity for integration of a major event into the framework of a mother's life; the opportunity to share a significant life experience; the opportunity to discuss fears, concerns, “missing pieces” or feelings of inadequacy or disappointment; the opportunity for the woman to gain an understanding of her strengths; and the opportunity to connect with other women'.
How do you feel when you share your birth story?
