    Leg Cramps

During my first pregnancy I encountered leg cramps, I would like to know if this is normal to all women who are pregnant? Is there any medication to prevent it?

    Hi Marifego,

Yes, this is fairly common in pregnancy. Especially in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters. It's not really known why they tend to occur, but there are some things you can do to help prevent or alleviate them:

    Stretch your calf muscles
    Stay as active as possible
    Stay hydrated
Choose proper shoes that support your feet
    Take a magnesium supplement
During a cramp, you can try elevating your legs, taking a hot shower or a warm bath or doing an ice massage to help relieve the pain.

    I hope this helps!
