Toddlers that snores could mean something else?

I have seen a small area or caption from a health magazine that says about kids who snore might be caused by tonsil or adenoid problems. Is it true?

    Thanks in advance.

This is a common question on the kid's Audiology clinic.

Snoring can be due a problem with the child's enlarged tonsils or adenoids but it is not necessarily the case. Indeed, many people (both adults and children) do just snore as a normal occurrence.

If a child has a problem with their tonsils then they may have frequent infections of the tonsils. Some children have such large tonsils and adenoids that they have breathing and swallowing problems - in these cases a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy are frequently advised. If you are concerned about either of these cases in your children then it is best to get them checked with your doctor.

    Best wishes,
