Birthing at Home As a midwife I have been privileged to be present at births in many and varied places; hospital labour wards, operating theatres, motel rooms, peoples' homes and even a Tee Pee on a farm. While hospitals are essential if complications arise and are another choice of birth place for women, birthing at home is wonderful and sacred. The labour unfolds at it's own pace and birth occurs in it's own time with less likelihood of complications occuring. Women are more likely to feel supported and comfortable in their own environment as they travel the birth journey. Jane Palmer

The Homebirth Network of South Australia is a network of people in the community who consider homebirth a safe and natural way of birthing. We insist on the rights of women to choose how and where they birth their babies. We believe this is a fundamental right for all women, especially in a time when birth is becoming increasingly medically managed, and women's birthing power is diminished.

The aim of this site is not to persuade you to choose home birth. What I would like to do instead is to provide information about home birth, for parents who think that it might be the right choice for them, and for health professionals looking for facts and ideas.
