A gorgeous keepsake for Australian babies and children!
The Tale of Wil Wombat; Peek Platypus; Kyla Koala and Kaz Kangaroo describe how, when the first European settlers arrived, they did not understand Australian animals. The stories revolve around misunderstandings about the animals – that the koala (bear) would drink milk, that the platypus breathed underwater like a fish; that white settlers didn’t know a wombat could dig and were astounded when they saw a kangaroo hop with babies in a pouch. The white settlers had never seen anything like Australian creatures and were not quite sure what they were ― they made many mistakes in their attempts to draw them. At the end of these books are pictures drawn by early settlers, accompanied by a simple text for children. See a kangaroo with four babies, a koala with pig-like ears and a wombat standing up on hind legs!
