Rebozo

Have you heard of the Rebozo Mexican shawl?

It is a traditional Mexican shawl long enough to wrap around a woman’s body and often used during pregnancy and while a woman is in labour. Midwives, doulas and support people can use the Rebozo

Mexican shawl to encourage the baby into an optimal position and comfort the woman. In labour, providers can use our handmade cotton Rebozo to help mobilise a woman’s pelvis, support her during contractions and assist in turning the baby into a favourable position for birth.

A Rebozo is made from soft, colourfast cotton and is strong, durable and practical. While there is little research evidence supporting the use of the Rebozo during pregnancy and labour, one study found the following:

  • Rebozo is a harmless, user-friendly and easy applicable labour technique.
  • Positive bodily sensations lead to a feeling of pain relief.
  • The Rebozo technique affected the labour process to move forward.

You can buy Pregnancy Birth & Beyond’s Rebozo bulk pack containing ten Rebozos at a discounted price. This pack is ideal for childbirth educators who can incorporate the Rebozo into labour practice sessions or even on-sell them to parents at the recommended retail price.
