Head held high!

Our story begins many weeks before Oliver's "birth day" - natural breech birth. We had a wonderful pre-natal experience with our midwife Ali from the Ryde Midwifery Group. She was incredibly supportive and informative of our many questions and varying anxieties and challenges throughout the pregnancy. She informed us without pressing her opinions and was always willing to do more research or find further information on a topic if we needed it. Having the same midwife throughout this experience was

Breech and beautiful – Oscar’s birth story

I would like to say my pregnancy and Oscar’s birth story was uneventful but it really wasn’t.  Perhaps my anxiety about my baby didn’t help, but all we wanted was a healthy baby. A growth scan at 32 weeks revealed our little man was breech and footling breech at that.  I knew that would mean a caesarean.  I was disappointed about not being able to have a natural birth. But, it was a small price to pay for a healthy

Joshua’s Birth Story

This is Joshua's birth story. Lack of information or choice, premature labour, medical crises, insensitive or undignified care can all conspire against an active birth and a positive start to mothering.  Jane Palmer describes how her son's birth didn't go according to plan. Unsuccessful External Cephalic Version (ECV) I was 35 weeks pregnant and had found out the previous week that my baby was breech. My doctor had tried to turn him unsuccessfully (twice). He referred me to a

Breech Of Faith

A breech of faith - I have decided to begin the birth story of my third child. This is while waiting for the active phase of my labour. At present, I have begun a slow process of contracting. Which is far different from the progress of my first two children. Needless to say, the phrase "no two labours are alike" plays out well here. But then again, this whole pregnancy has been so very different. I sit here at

Women around the world unite to fight for the survival of vaginal breech birth!

In Ottawa, Canada, on a Friday morning in April, 2006, Robin Guy woke up, her membranes ruptured and she knew it was ‘time’. Today her second child would be born. They’d known for months that the baby was breech. She had been breech at the 20-week ultrasound and never turned over. Robin’s midwife was not experienced in vaginal breech deliveries. Having trained after the ‘Term Breech Trial,’ the single research project that had stopped vaginal breech deliveries cold in most

Planned VBB,‭ ‬John Hunter Hospital Newcastle,‭ ‬22/02/2013,‭ ‬Birth stool My breech birth journey began at my‭ ‬36-week anti-natal appointment. This is when my midwife told me that my baby was breech. An ultrasound the following day confirmed that‭ ‬the baby was in a frank breech position. Over the following weeks, I tried everything in my power to try and turn bub. ECV,‭ ‬moxibustion,‭ ‬breech inversion/tilts,‭ ‬hot/cold packs,‭ ‬and acupuncture.‭ ‬But despite my best efforts, my baby remained happily breech. Not

Vaginal Twin Breech Birth Story

This is my story of having a vaginal twin breech birth. For an unplanned pregnancy, we were certainly surprised when we discovered two little beings on the first ultrasound. We had initially planned a homebirth, with our midwife who had supported us at our daughter's birth at home one year ago. However, due to the increased risks associated with twins, we decided to opt for a hospital birth. Having birthed my first two children in hospital I held many

A Story Of Faith – Exert from “Parenting By Heart”

This is a story of faith - Robyn had her first baby at home. She had planned a home birth for her second child, but the baby was in the breech position. A lack of support for her desire to have a natural, vaginal birth meant a search for new carers in the last weeks of her pregnancy. ‘I had accepted the seeming inevitability of a hospital birth and felt that with my carers in place I had done

Maia’s Birth Story

Nicholas, my beloved, and our three children bought me a rose garden- ten rose plants- for my 40th birthday in May, the seventh moon of my pregnancy, and planted them outside our bedroom window. In July, a radiant pink rose, dearest, budded and flowered as we awaited the time of birth of our fourth baby. During this pregnancy, the moon had been on my calendar. I knew that the birth time would be close to nine moon months from
