Homebirth Stories

Homebirth StoriesIn this section of our website, you can read stories about other parents’ experiences of homebirth. Pregnancy and birth stories are a great way to learn about situations similar or different to your own. We’d love you to send us your own story to share with others.

The joy of having a homebirth is that your birth can be unique to you and your family in a way that isn’t always possible in a hospital. Our homebirth stories tell of women who made this birthing journey at home; with the surroundings, objects and people they love around them. These are women who have followed their dream about how they wanted to bring their babies into the world.

Birth is joyful, intense, emotional, demanding and life-changing… all at once. The home environment is uniquely placed to naturally allow birth to unfold at its own pace, in its own way. In these homebirth stories women tell their experiences of first meeting their baby – sometimes intense, sometimes harrowing, sometimes with unexpected twists and turns, and always life-changing. There’s nothing quite like a woman’s personal telling of her own birth story.

During my pregnancy I had many different emotions arising, and as they arose I felt that I did my best to deal

The birth was pretty much exactly what happened in a dream I had before I even fell pregnant, and the dream is where I got the name Kyra from! I am sad because I want to wind back the clock and go through it again! The experience

Finn’s Birth Story

This is Finn's birth story. My first inkling of labour came on at approximately 4pm one Saturday afternoon. It had been quite a hot day and I was feeling very big and uncomfortable. I had reached that point where you “just wish this baby would come out”. I was only 3 days past my due date, but it felt like an eternity. Earlier in the afternoon I had lay down for a nap and when I stood up, something

Nathanael’s birth story

Nathanael John Broadbent was born at 5:49 am on Friday 20 June 2008. It was a full moon. We celebrated the full moon the night before with our traditional family ceremony. Our oldest son Benjamin had laid out the Balinese Kris (a ceremonial dagger) and some other ceremonial pieces on John’s sarong – candles, crystals, feathers, an Amazonian head-dress, a Shamanic eagle and emu feather stick from Uluru. We lit all the beautiful coloured candles leftover from Benjamin’s naming
