Now, as you approach the end of your pregnancy, you will find it harder to walk around! If you haven’t started maternity leave yet, make sure you still slow down. As your baby continues to grow, they place more demands on your body, so you need to rest and make sure you look after yourself. Eat healthily, and continue to do some light exercise, such as a gentle swim, as it may help you feel more relaxed.

34 weeks pregnant How is your baby growing when 34 Weeks Pregnant?

Your baby now measures 30cm from head to bottom and weighs about 2.1kg. Their immune system begins to develop, which adds a layer of protection when they enter the world. The baby is also swallowing and passing fluid into the amniotic fluid (the bag of water) that surrounds them. You will feel their kicks more strongly now, and it can sometimes be a little uncomfortable, depending on your baby’s position.

What You May Feel

It is normal to feel nervous as the end of pregnancy approaches. However, if you have any concerns, it is important to speak to your midwife or doctor. A serious condition called pre-eclampsia affects around 3% of Australian pregnant women. Symptoms of pre-eclampsia include a frontal headache, vision changes (such as blurring or flashing before your eyes), sudden swelling of the face, hands or feet, pain just below the ribs (epigastric pain) or vomiting. If you experience any of these symptoms, immediately contact your midwife or doctor.

Tips when you are 34 Weeks Pregnant

It’s essential to rest, rest and more rest. If you are still working, you need to come home and put your feet up. Your baby is growing by the day, placing pressure on your body, leading to swelling in your ankles and feet. Elevating them at the end of the day can help reduce the swelling and make you more comfortable.
